For Translators
Details and requirements

MULTI-LINGUA's standard contract for translators and proofreaders spells out the basic ground rules for completing work. There are, however, particular details listed on this page that can facilitate smoother cooperation between ourselves and the translators we employ on a sub-contracting basis.

Formal requirements for translations
  • Translations must be prepared in MS WORD unless the use of another word-processing application has been agreed upon.
  • The title of the file containing the translation should agree with the name of the source text adding the two-letter code of the target language.
  • The appearance of the translation should, as far as possible, reflect the formatting of the original material (titles, subtitles, paragraphs, line spacing, bolding, italics, underlining, etc).
  • Make certain that any text involving numbers, measurements, or quantities is accurately converted and properly presented according to the target language. However, this does not include monetary values.
  • If translating into English or Spanish, translators must take into account any stylistic requests on the part of the client, which the project manager will communicate to the translator if applicable (e.g. regional spellings, different stylistic manuals, etc.)
  • When possible, a spell-check must be performed on the finished translation. If the translator does not possess such a program, they should indicate upon delivery that the spelling has not been checked.
  • Completed translations should be reviewed in full before delivery, primarily in order to identify and correct spelling and syntactical errors that word-processing software is incapable of identifying.
  • Strict confidentiality is expected of the translator with regards to the informational content of materials to be translated or proofread. Confidentiality is part of your contract with MULTI-LINGUA.
  • Work undertaken must be delivered to MULTI-LINGUA by 8:30 a.m. on the day of the deadline, unless otherwise agreed upon. If delivered in person, the work should be presented on floppy disk(s) along with the original copy of the work to be translated and any supplementary materials or copies.
  • Translations may also be delivered via e-mail to lingua@lingua.hu. If special arrangements have been made beforehand, in some cases translations may be sent via fax to (+36-1) 212-2329.
