The tasks of the Council of Hungarian Terminology include supporting basic and applied research concerning Hungarian terminology, collecting and disseminating information regarding terminology, building relations in connection with advancing terminology, and maintaining liaison with institutions of the government, the economy, and public administration. To this end, the Council issues recommendations to institutions of the government, the economy, and public administration, conducts coordinating activities, and involves itself in the network of international terminology organizations.
The Council of Hungarian Terminology (Magyar Nyelv Terminológiai Tanácsa, MaTT) held its meeting on 27 April 2010. The meting was in order for the Hungarian Standards Institution (Magyar Szabványügyi Testület, MSZT) to present a report to the MaTT regarding the Hungarian translation and localization of international standards (EN and ISO) that are generally English in the original. Due to financial reasons, the MSZT is unable to fund the translation into Hungarian of these standards. However, in lack of an official translation, the professional Hungarian language has a bleak outlook for the future, since the terminology of the various professional fields is not defined officially.
