Survey on Translation and Localization Pricing

A recently conducted industry pricing report shows that prices are down despite rising demand. The report is based on Common Sense Advisory’s survey of 651 language service providers, which details the costs of services among 156 language pairs.

Translation is undoubtedly one of the fundamental requisites of business globalization. The net result of global supply, advances in technology, economic troubles, and more aggressive buyers has conspired to drive down the prices of most major and up-and-coming language pairs since the firm last collected data on pricing in late 2007.

The results are based on a report of 651 language service providers and freelancers from 75 countries, who responded to questions pertaining to their pricing structures, processes, and customer bases. Besides the 10 languages with the greatest global impact (French, English, Spanish, Chinese, etc.), the report also included 23 “next wave languages” that are used in rapidly developing markets or in areas important to the global supply chain (such as Arabic languages and languages of India).
